Shiboridashi is a special type of teapot where progressive simplification has removed everything that could be removed – even the strainer. The lid and the tea leaves themselves are used to filter the liquor. The idea of shiboridashi is best captured by a quote fromAntoine de Saint-Exupéry:
"Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."
Shiboridashi is primarily intended for high-quality Japanese green teas such as Gyokuro or asamushi sencha, where cooler water is used for preparation. Thanks to its open shape and large surface area, tea prepared in a shiboridashi is naturally sweeter and more flavourful. This shiboridashi is glazed, so switching between different types of tea is no problem; however, when preparing black teas the rim may heat up more than is comfortable. Likewise, if your favourite type of tea is deeply steamed fukamushi sencha, I would recommend a teapot with a fine strainer – preparation will be easier.
Ufo is the basic, yet by far the most popular type of shiboridashi in our range. Thanks to its affordable price and greater durability, it is often the first shiboridashi our customers purchase. It is not as precise as Japanese pieces from renowned masters, but you can take it on a trip or to the office without worrying too much about its survival.
All Ufo pieces are handmade, so each one is an original – volume is approximately 80 ml.
Made in the Czech Republic.
