Akino Kamairicha 50g
Surprisingly delicious Kamairicha from the summer harvest
Product detailed description
Kamairicha is a rare type of Japanese green tea processed in the "Chinese" style – instead of stopping oxidation with steam like sencha, the leaves are heated with dry heat in a pan (kama). The leaf shape also resembles Chinese teas rather than needles – small, slightly wavy curls. The result is a tea with a warmer, rounder character – without the classic grassiness of Japanese teas, but with gently roasted, sweetish notes.
Akino Kamairi comes from the summer harvest. At tastings, I often say that theoretically it is possible to have quality green tea from the second harvest – I just never encountered one. For sencha, that still holds true. With kamairicha, the impossible has just happened. Perfect processing brought out the qualities of the leaf, creating a tea that I recommend without hesitation as an excellent choice for a warmer green tea – moreover in a price range that won't break the bank.
Ideal for everyday drinking, for autumn and winter days, as a first step into the world of kamairi.
