The highest - the imperial sort of Matcha from Master Sakamoto. Pinnacle of perfection.

Harvest 04/2025

The pinnacle of our matcha range — the finest matcha Master Sakamoto has to offer. Have you ever wondered what tea the world's most powerful people drink? What does matcha taste like when it travels to the Japanese Imperial Court? Is it really worth it? Is there truly such a difference?

Made exclusively from the Seimei cultivar, incredibly delicious with a remarkable texture. Quite possibly the finest matcha on the planet. An explosion of flavour and infinite complexity.

Matcha Zen, a masterwork by the "gyokuro guru" Master Sakamoto. Grown on a plantation that has been organic for 40 years. Nearly a month of shading imparts an extraordinarily sweet and delicate flavour, underscored by traditional stone-mill grinding, which lends the tea its characteristic velvety texture.

Seimei is one of the youngest (2020) yet most successful cultivars. Master Sakamoto was among the first to support its development.

Master Sakamoto has been cultivating organic gyokuro since 1985. In Japan he is a renowned expert, rightly nicknamed the 'gyokuro guru' for his vast knowledge and achievements. His teas consistently disprove the claim that high-quality gyokuro cannot be grown without artificial fertilisers. Among other things, he has invented and produces his own organic fertiliser, actively promotes organic farming and helps farmers who wish to make the transition. His entire philosophy is rooted in a holistic view of soil, plants and human beings as parts of a single whole.
