This exceptional tea was created with the idea that even karigane – a tea made primarily from stems and stalks – can bear the mark of true mastery. While karigane is usually considered a byproduct of gyokuro leaf production, this Gyokuro Karigane “Puremium” is different: it was deliberately crafted as an excellent gyokuro for those who, for any reason, wish to avoid caffeine.
The stems come from the elite tea bushes that produce Sò, Zen, and Tenmei – the highest grades of gyokuro from Master Sakamoto’s farm. The entire garden was shaded for four weeks using the traditional method of textile covering on constructed frames. This long shading period enhanced the strong umami and deep sweetness, without any trace of astringency.
The result is a tea completely free of harshness, with an exceptionally smooth and harmonious taste, and a very low caffeine content. A perfect choice for evening relaxation or as a companion to afternoon meditation.
Original 50g pack, also suitable for archiving.
Compared to other gyokuro, karigane has significantly lower caffeine content, with high L-Theanine content.
