 Matcha Tea Bowl from Kyoto

A handcrafted matcha tea bowl by Yohei Nakamura, made in the historic pottery region of Kyoto. The inner surface is adorned with the traditional Mishima technique, where flower patterns are stamped into the glazed clay, filled with pigment, and sealed again with a transparent glaze. This creates a unique inlaid texture with a soft, timeless aesthetic.

Mishima originated in Korea and was brought to Japan by Korean potters in the 16th century, where it was refined into a beloved decorative style.

The kōdai, or foot of the bowl, is beautifully shaped like a cherry blossom – a symbol of fleeting beauty and grace.
