Yamadori Houjicha takes its name from the mountain pheasant Yamadori – a rare bird that only a fortunate few ever get the chance to see.

Through masterful roasting, this houjicha develops a gently sweet, nutty, and earthy flavor that warms in the winter months and refreshes when prepared cold in summer. Yamadori Houjicha is a calm, approachable, and friendly tea – it doesn’t require strict precision in preparation, yet it always rewards you with a full and satisfying taste.

It yields up to three infusions, each revealing a slightly different character – from the intensity of the first sip to the lightly sweet finish that lingers pleasantly like a gentle memory.

Nengancha 念願茶 is the name of the tea garden located in the village of Higashishirakawa (“Eastern White River”) in Gifu Prefecture. At an altitude of 450–500 meters, surrounded by dense forests and facing south, the garden benefits from a unique microclimate ideal for tea cultivation. High annual rainfall (about 2,500 mm), frequent mists, and significant temperature differences between day and night create perfect conditions for producing excellent tea.
