The most precisely crafted shiboridashi I have encountered so far. The lid fits perfectly, and the filtering ability is astonishing even with such a minimalist design. A gem from the Gyokuryu workshop in Tokoname. Elegance, functionality, and traditional Japanese aesthetics come together in perfect harmony.
Jirō Umehara was born in 1948 in Tokoname, a city with over a thousand years of ceramic history. After graduating from ceramic school in 1967, he trained under masters, developing a keen sense for proportions, detail, and precision.
In 1980, he founded his own workshop, Gyokuryu. Today, Umehara Jirō is a certified traditional craftsman recognized by the Japanese Ministry, and his work combines functionality with beauty.
Each shiboridashi is thus the result of decades of experience.
