Genmaicha

Genmaicha is a unique Japanese green tea blended with roasted brown rice. The name comes from genmai (brown rice) and cha (tea). During the roasting process, some rice grains pop, creating tiny popcorn-like pieces that add a whimsical touch to the tea. The flavor is gently nutty and toasty, with a subtle sweetness and earthy aroma. Thanks to the rice, it’s less bitter than pure green tea and has lower caffeine levels, making it a perfect evening drink. The brewed tea has a pale golden-yellow color. Historically, genmaicha was a frugal invention – the rice stretched the more expensive tea leaves, turning it into a beloved everyday beverage. Today, it’s cherished for its comforting, rustic charm and approachable flavor.
